Changes in the Understanding Fashion Academy Presented Among Prominent Cultural Figures

Change: Even More Accessible Learning for Everyone

The usual tranquility of the Museum of Applied Arts and Design was replaced by a lively atmosphere as the educational platform “Understanding Fashion” announced the beginning of its new season with an event reminiscent of a cultural kaleidoscope.

However, the highlight of the evening was not the calendar change, but a declaration of broader perspectives and a determination to transcend traditional educational norms. “Our driving force is a community open to new knowledge, and our priority is the creation of quality content. We promise lectures with top-level speakers, continually expanding thematic boundaries, flexible learning formats, and always an inspiring atmosphere. Additionally, the geography of our education is changing, as we begin to organize events in different cities across Lithuania,” stated the new head of “Understanding Fashion,” Evelina Petkevičienė.

The event, which revealed a synergy of art, elegance, education, and community, not only created an inspiring atmosphere but also fully embodied the concept of “Understanding Fashion.” Guests were also invited to explore the interactive installation “Planet of People” by artist Julijonas Urbonas, which garnered significant interest at the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale and was presented by the artist himself.

The event was attended by members of the “Understanding Fashion” academy and representatives from various fields of fashion, art, culture, and communication.

Inviting Fashion and Art Enthusiasts to Join

Fulfilling a niche for intellectual education, an international community of teaching experts, and thousands of students: in its seven years of operation, the “Understanding Fashion” platform has become a leader in education about fashion, art, and lifestyle culture in Lithuania. This contemporary format academy organizes a variety of practical training sessions, introductory courses, and comprehensive lecture series.

“Intellectual education is a dynamic, enriching journey that transcends traditional learning boundaries on our platform. We aim not only to develop students’ critical thinking, creativity, and cultural awareness but also to encourage appreciation for the interconnected worlds of fashion, art, and broader culture,” shared E. Petkevičienė. The project leader also expressed her joy over the expanded ranks of the educational platform this season: joining the team of lecturers are stylist and fashion anthropologist Miglė Kazėnaitė, director of the “Vartai” gallery Toma Monginė, head of the Vilnius Picture Gallery Aistė Bimbirytė, and new-generation technology strategist, international fashion technology expert, and visionary Odeta Jacė.

According to the organizers of “Understanding Fashion,” this project is not only about knowledge but also about the opportunity to expand a circle of like-minded individuals: “We invite all fashion, design, and culture enthusiasts to join and create a warm community where, as practice shows, new friendships are formed, often leading students to new collaborative projects.”
